OFFICIAL VOICE OF THE COMMUNIST PARTY OF CUBA CENTRAL COMMITTEE

The book Fernando Pérez: Cine, ciudades e intertextos by intellectuals Luis Álvarez Álvarez and Armando Pérez Padrón from Camagüey, received the 2015 National Literary Criticism Prizeawarded by the Dulce María Loynaz Cultural Centre affiliated with the Cuban Book Institute.
A study of the works of iconic Cuban filmmaker, Fernando Pérez, director of important pictures such as Clandestinos, La vida es silbar and José Martí: el ojo del canario, the authors use a varied theoretic repertory to provide the reader with a in depth analysis of the genius of this living legend of Cuban cinema, reported AIN.
Speaking to the press, Armando Pérez Padrón, one of the authors of the book, noted that the work - edited by Letras Cubanas - was inspired by the 70th anniversary of its protagonist in November 2014; and highlighted that there is no better present for an artist than a work of art.
We wanted to reflect Fernando Pérez’s love for this city, where the world premier of La vida es silbar, Suite Habana, and José Martí: el ojo del canario, were held; and also pay tribute to Havana itself, his home city which features in all his films like another character, and its interrelation with other artistic manifestations, explained Pérez Padrón.
The book’s launch, presided by outstanding film critic Luciano Castillo, took place in Havana during the 24th International Book Fair last February, and was presented again in the same edition of the festival in Camagüey and during the Cinematographic Criticism Workshop also held in that city.
According to the Dulce María Loynaz Cultural Centre’s website, the prize is awarded to the most important artistic or literary works published by Cuban editorials, which are responsible for nominating candidates for the annual prize.
As a result of winning the Prize the book will be republished in 2016 and be made available a larger audience, concluded Pérez Padrón.
