Those visiting the city of Holguín, in the eastern part of Cuba, over the coming days will be able to enjoy a huge festival of arts, literature and tradition as part of “Culture Week”, which runs January 14-20.
Each year, this once small village celebrates Spain’s designation of Holguín as a City and Government Possession, on January 18, 1752, with 2016 marking the 264th anniversary.
In this thirty-fourth edition of Culture Week, the arts, literature and various traditions will come together, with the City Hall opening its doors to visual art exhibitions, the Calixto García Museum hosting the National Conference on the Wars of Independence, and a range of recitals and dance performances.
Along with the Romerías de Mayo (May Pilgrimages) and the Ibero-American Culture Festival, Culture Week is among the main festivities of this city, one of the major tourist destinations on the island.
