HAVANA.— The opportunity to interact with authors, publishers, literary agents and distributors is one of the biggest attractions of the Havana International Book Fair, set to open its 25th edition February 11.

Edel Morales, Cuban Book Institute vice president for international relations, speaking at a press conference held at the Casa de las Americas, reported that more than 170 writers are expected to attend.

The Fair (February 11-21) offers a culturally enriching invitation to those looking to find books, interact with authors, and enjoy a program of activities promoting reflection, research and other art forms.

Jesús David Curbelo, director of the Dulce María Loynaz Cultural Center and coordinator of the Fair’s literary program, offered as an example the Social Sciences Colloquium, while Caridad Tamayo Fernández, from the Casa de las Américas publishing house, reported on her institution’s tributes to Mario Benedetti and Eduardo Galeano.

Outstanding among the many parallel events is the international seminar focused on the 130th anniversary of slavery’s abolition in Cub,a taking place at the Casa de las Americas, a preamble to the recently launched Afro-American Studies program there, directed by essayist and researcher Zuleica Romay.
