They carry on their shoulders the strength of a country, like all their followers. They have earned the respect of the public because they are not musicians who go around "praying that they will be censored, so they can become famous." They know that “the path is cleared with blood and hope / And not by prettifying the scraps of praise.”
Buena Fe, the duo that for more than two decades has sung to Cuba on the basis of what makes it great, but also what it lacks, has once again been the target of media manipulation. On this occasion, the frontmen of those who want to see a submissive Cuba decided to exploit their postponed - not canceled - concerts in Canada.
"Back in 2020, concerts were organized with a Canadian company, to launch our album Carnal. The pandemic arrived and they were postponed until 2021," Israel Rojas explained in a conversation on social networks. "Of those who had bought tickets, whether in Toronto, Montreal or Ottawa, no one asked for their money back, which meant that the dates were kept," he reported, adding that COVID-19 did not allow those shows to take place, either.
"Now in 2022, the Canadian government does not recognize Cuban vaccines, and given that situation, the organizers kindly ask us to get another vaccine to be able to perform the concerts," he explained.
The answer to this request could be none other than the one given by Buena Fe’s Yoel Martínez: "We are vaccinated with our vaccine .., we don't need another one to go anywhere."
Israel Rojas stated: "We composed “La fuerza de un país.” We have met the staff teams that created our Cuban vaccines. Do they really believe that we are going to be so inconsistent as to vaccinate ourselves with a different one? We are going to play where our vaccines are recognized... for the people who want to come to our concerts."
Simultaneously, given the wave of fake news generated by the position they have taken, social networks have served as a stage for the public to express admiration of these creators committed to art and to their nation.
The hashtag #ConBuenaFeYo has been shared by thousands of users. On his Twitter account, decorated Hero of the Republic Gerardo Hernández posted: "This is who they are, the pride of the honest and shame for the cowards!"
Likewise, Kenelma Carvajal, deputy minister of Culture, wrote: "I am profoundly proud of you. The people of Cuba admire you for your immense talent and the courage you have to defend your principles and ideals." Cuba is with Buena Fe, is what the vaccinated and sovereign people say, not what you might read on the net.
