The president of Casa de las Americas, Abel Prieto Jimenez, denounced the so-called Declaration of Lima, which emerged at the end of the recent 2nd Regional Meeting of the extremist right-wing Madrid Forum, held in the Peruvian capital, Lima.
Prieto Jimenez described the entity as a "fascist libel that pretends to set itself up as a defender of democracy", and in his Twitter account he assured that the text proposes "to roll back the red stain that covers our region." It is the last straw, he said, "fascism proclaiming itself defender of democracy."
At the opening of the meeting, a video by the president of the ultra-right-wing Spanish VOX party, Santiago Abascal, which was intended to mark the lines of debate, celebrated the impeachment and imprisonment of Peruvian President Pedro Castillo and, according to Prensa Latina news agency, hurled insults against governments and progressive forces in Latin America.
The meeting, considered an instrument of fascist foreign interference, also had the intention of supporting, from the Madrid Forum, that Peru should remain as a point of contention to the advance of democratic political instances and defenders of the peoples, such as the Sao Paulo Forum or the Puebla Group.
The Peru Chapter of the Network of Intellectuals, Artists and Social Movements in Defense of Humanity also reported that this extreme right-wing meeting brought together "aspiring dictators, neo-fascists and ultra-right-wingers, who manipulate the concepts of freedom, democracy and the rule of law.
