More and more cartoonists and caricaturists are using their work to raise public awareness about the influence of the political world in today's reality; this explains the need for the First International Biennial of Political Humor, which will arrive in the Cuban capital on June 14 and will be held in several venues until June 28.
With the fight against fascism as its main theme, the event will bring together more than 40 artists from 22 countries, which will allow for a variety of points of view on such a complex phenomenon as politics.
At a press conference, Daneisy Garcia Roque, interim president of the National Council of Plastic Arts, commented that the event includes graphic exhibitions, theoretical spaces, talks, theatrical and audiovisual presentations, as well as concerts and other proposals in communities and centers of social interest.
The central exhibition of the event will be inaugurated on the 14th itself, in the gallery of 23 and 12; with cartoonists from 24 countries.
There are 225 works chosen to participate in the contest, which will be appreciated by a rigorous international jury that, under the direction of Cuban cartoonist Aristides Hernandez (ARES), will choose the Honorary Prize and a first, second and third prize.
The National Humor and Satire Salon will also be held at the Museum of Humor in San Antonio de los Baños, and there will be a special collective exhibition dedicated to Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro.
