BAYAMO, Granma.— With the aspiration that the Festival of Cuban Identity will become a celebration of all Cuba to continue promoting the essences of the national identity, this city -from October 17 to 20 next- will transform squares, theaters, streets, parks, communities... student and work centers, into living expressions of the springs that exalt our culture.
Organizers of the event said at a press conference that, for this 30th edition of the event, a comprehensive program with more than 200 activities and the presence of about twenty guests from various artistic expressions, as well as intellectuals, researchers, academics and other prestigious personalities of the cultural field in the country has been conceived.
The Festival, which in addition to its epicenter in the city of Bayamo will be extended with various proposals to some 30 communities in the territory, will also feature the participation of performing groups from other provinces, and students and artistic brigades of the Provincial School of Art of Granma.
Yordan Roberto León Rodríguez, director of Culture in the province, highlighted among the novelties of this edition, the premiere of two plays by the groups Alas de Cuba and Ategua; the presentation of 12 literary novelties (ten of them in digital format) by authors from the patio; and the performance of an unpublished concert by the Chamber Orchestra San Salvador de Bayamo.
He also highlighted the premiere of the audiovisual materials: Muchacha dentro de mí, by filmmaker Diana Iglesias, dedicated to the renowned poetess Lucía Muñoz, the bride of Bayamo; and the video clip Vengo del Sol, directed by David Tamayo, which presides over the tribute campaign for the 130th anniversary of the fall in combat of the Apostle José Martí, on May 19, 2025.
Meanwhile, Damiana Perez Figueredo, director of the House of Cuban Nationality, said that the main theoretical program of the Festival, the event Melting Pot of Nationality, will address issues related to identity, national formation, heritage, cultural and communicational practices, among others; while the second edition of the colloquium on Decolonizing Latin American Cultural Thought will be held.
The Festival of Cuban Identity will also include, among its main moments, a concert by Cándido Fabré y Su Banda, the space of the Cien Toneladas de Salsa, and the gala commemorating the first performance of the National Anthem, on October 20.
