The magic of jazz once again took the stage in Havana when the 40th edition of the Jazz Plaza 2025 International Festival began this Sunday at the Avellaneda Hall of the National Theater, celebrating the 80th birthday of maestro Frank Fernández and his 65 years of artistic life.
Creating a unique experience that resonated in the memory of the attendees, several artists shone on stage to pay tribute to the career and talent of Frank Fernández; among them were Nachito Herrera, the National Choir of Cuba under the direction of Digna Guerra, Los Muñequitos de Matanzas, the String Orchestra directed by Javier Millet, and the Cuban Sax Quintet.
Each artist, from their particular musical perspective, contributed their essence to the tribute, interpreting some of their own songs and others of the master's authorship.
In an emotional moment, Frank Fernández addressed the audience, expressing his gratitude for the massive attendance. "It is a great honor to have the theater practically full," he commented with a smile and thanked everyone present for their support, especially the young audience. This free and creative spirit was palpable in every note played, as the musicians offered their best to pay homage to the man who was once their mentor.
The opening of the festival not only celebrated the music, but also presented the Jazz Plaza 40 label to Frank Fernández and Digna Guerra, in recognition of their invaluable contribution to the world of jazz and Cuban music.
With this wonderful opening, the Jazz Plaza 2025 International Festival is presented as a space where art and culture intertwine to unite all generations who enjoy good music.
