Under Martí's premise “To read is to grow”, the most agglutinating cultural space in the country returns to eastern Cuba: the International Book Fair, which will once again become a great revelry where literature, art, history and other knowledge converge.
In its 33rd edition, the event will open its curtains today, in Santiago de Cuba, and tomorrow and until the 23rd, in the territories of Las Tunas, Granma, Holguín and Guantánamo.
Several institutions will embrace the reencounter with books and reading through literary presentations, poetry downloads, theoretical spaces, entertainment for writers and other initiatives.
In the Granma chapter of the festival, the celebration of the 45 years of artistic and literary life of local poet Luis Carlos Suárez Reyes stands out, in an event that will have as its main space the Museo Casa Natal de Carlos Manuel de Céspedes, and other areas surrounding the Plaza de la Revolución.
In Las Tunas, the event will revisit several titles that have marked the history of Editorial Sanlope, and more than 15 novelties will be presented in printed and digital formats; and in Holguín, more than 490 titles and about 80 novelties of different genres and categories will be available.
In Santiago de Cuba, Enramadas and Heredia streets, next to Céspedes Park, will host the festival, with around 400 titles and 10,000 copies; while in Guantánamo, the 25th anniversary of El Mar y la Montaña Publishing House will be celebrated, as well as the 70th anniversary of writer and publisher Mireya Piñeiro, a faithful exponent of literature in that province.
