The Cuban, Marlies Mejías, was awarded the silver medal in the grueling Women's omnium of the Track Cycling World Cup on Sunday, November 9, in Guadalajara, Mexico.

Mejias was only surpassed by Belgium’s Jolien Dhoore, and was the second Cuban to receive a medal in the competition, after Lisandra Guerra won bronze in the sprint on Saturday.

Faced with 22 of the best cyclists in the world, Marlies gave an excellent performance in the event which tests all round track racing.

Besides the Belgian, US Olympic and world champion, Sarah Hammer (sixth); world champion, Gojtyra Malgorzata (Poland); and winner of the bronze and Olympic medalist Leire Olebarría (Spain), also competed in the omnium (consisting of six trials). (Taken from Radio Havana Cuba)
