“It always feels the same, you get goose bumps and your chest tightens. It’s as if right now I were fighting Zamora in the ring in Munich,” said Cuban sports legend, Orlando Martínez, small in stature but large in heart, a giant boxer.
Orlandito, as we know him, was talking about the raising of Cuba’s flag at the Veracruz World Trade Center, yesterday November 13, as he and the current delegation of athletes entered the national pavilion, full of pride and committed to doing their best in the 22nd Central American and Caribbean Games, set to begin Friday.
The ceremony was held inside, as a result of the 80 kph winds blowing outdoors, and presided by Alejandro Palma Fragoso, the Mexican federal government’s representative, with Antonio Becali Garrido, president of Cuba’s Institute of Sports, Physical Education and Recreation (INDER), and María Luisa Fernández, Cuban consul general in Mexico, in attendance.
