The Cuban team maintains their lead in the Fifth World Series of Boxing.

Arlen López and Yasnier Toledo triumphed once again, Andy Cruz showed his stellar credentials, Erislandy Savón secured an easy win and the Cuban boxing team (Cuba Domadores) maintained their supremacy in group A of the Fifth World Series of Boxing after defeating Mexico (Mexico Guerreros) 4-1.

In the Olympic Gym in the city of Aguascalientes, Mexico, the middleweight López was the best on all fronts, repeating his 3-0 victory against Misael Rodríguez in the final of the 22nd Central American and Caribbean Games, and shortly after light welterweight Toledo, two-times World Championship silver medalist, did the same against Raúl Curiel.

Toledo had finished in third place during the Central American and Caribbean Games and responded as had been expected in the last fight of the Saturday competition, in which his team secured 15 points after celebrating their fifth consecutive win despite the first individual defeat of light flyweight, Joahnys Argilagos.

Cruz effectively combined attacks and defense to neutralize Brian González´s onslaught and premiered as the winner after securing a well deserved 3-0 triumph, dominating from the outset of a match highlighted by continuous combinations and effective counters.

Cuba’s national boxing silver medalist substituted Olympic Champion, Robeisy Ramírez, and passed the test of debuting in this high level competition with a pleasing performance and win secured through his agility and ample technical resources. Another triumph for Rolando Acebal’s students arrived on Friday, as Daniel Paniagua failed to attend the weigh-in, leaving Erislandy Savón unbeaten without having to enter the ring.

In regards to the young Argilagos, the Pan American champion, Joselito Velázquez, imposed his greater experience to defeat the Cuban 3-0 based on constant attacks and more effective connections from Velázquez, supported by a public for whom he is an idol.

The 2013 youth world champion seemed more fluent in the last two bouts but didn’t find the speed seen in his previous appearances and which was decisive to Cuba ending this round of the competition with a total of 24 wins and one defeat, the best score of the Series so far.
