On May 17, Cuban Serguey Torres won gold in the men’s C-1 5000 meters, in the last event of the Canoeing World Cup, held in the city of Montemor-o-Velho, Portugal.

According to the event website, Torres won the race with a time of 22.12.060 minutes, followed by Peng Fei Zhen from China (22.36.940) and Matheusz Kaminsky from Poland (22.46.180), respectively.

For his part, Cuban canoeist Jorge García (20.34.550) finished in fifth in the K-1 5000 meters kayak event; with the first three places going to Portuguese Fernando Pimienta (20.09.770), Argentine Daniel Bo (20.14.180) and Enmanuel Silva also from Portugal (20.19.900), in that order.

The top five spots on the country medal chart were occupied by Canada, with four golds, four silvers and one bronze; France (3-2-3); Hungary (3-2-1); Portugal (3-1-4) and New Zealand (3-1-1).
