Everything was on show in the gymnastics competitions. Dedication, expectations and impeccable somersaults and turns, until finally Manrique Larduet’s two vaults combined to secure him the elusive gold medal.
Complex executions from the beginning, which he solidly defended, gave him an average of 15.125 points (15.200 and 15.050), enough to relegate Doncel Whittenburg of the U.S. (14.962) and Brazilian Caio Souza (14.925) to second and third place, respectively.
Larduet, who once again was described as somewhat tense by judges, took the silver for the Men’s Parallel Bars (15.650), while Colombian Jossimar Calvo (15.700) took the gold.
The Colombian went on to repeat his winning performance on the horizontal bars (15.700).
