A total of 25 teams from the North, Central America and Caribbean Volleyball Confederation (NORCECA) – 13 men’s and 12 women’s teams – will compete in the Beach Volleyball World Championships, taking place in Vienna, Austria July 28 through August 6.
Two of Cuba’s teams, composed of Nivaldo Díaz and Sergio González, and Karell Peña and Daisel Quesada, qualified for the tournament during International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) and NORCECA sponsored competitions, respectively.
Ariel Saínz, president of the Cuban Volleyball Federation explained that the island is also set to send a women’s team to the global event, as part of the NORCECA selection.
Meanwhile, Saínz went on to note that Cuba’s national indoor volleyball team are currently preparing for the Pan American Cup, kicking off June 15 in Peru, where they will be competing for a ticket to the 2018 Grand Prix, in either the NORCECA category or that of South America.
