Hamburg, Germany.— On August 29, flyweight Joahnys Argilagos defeated Germany’s Salah Ibrahim to secure Cuba’s first medal of the 19th Boxing World Championships currently taking place in the city.
The Doha 2015 Champion celebrated his second World Championship medal after winning 5-0 during a match which saw him obliged to work hard at close range given his opponents greater stature and reach.
The Cuban flyweight stated that he felt fast and is now focused on advancing to the final.
Argilagos is set to face Zhomart Yerzhan from Kazakhstan – who defeated Russia’s Vasilii Egorov 5-0 - in the semifinal on Thursday, August 31.
