Cuba's sports movement is working hard to recover and modernize a number of facilities to improve training of our athletes, with a view toward upcoming competitions, on the island and abroad.

As part of this effort, inaugurated yesterday, January 15, at Havana's Latinoamericano Stadium was a modern strength gym that will be used by different baseball teams for training.

Likewise, opening its doors was the a school, to train cadres and Physical Culture and Sports professionals, along with the headquarters of the Cubadeportes S.A. enterprise, with a new format, both in the proximity of Manuel Fajardo Physical Culture and Sports University.

In the summer of 2017 a number of facilities were remodeled including the national sailing school, the Baraguá pool complex, and a strength gym at the Pan American Stadium, while expected to open soon are modern facilities for field hockey, rowing, and canoeing, which will also include accommodations for athletes and coaching staff.

During the inauguration at the Latinoamericano, Irina Méndez, advisor to the Institute of Sports, Physical Education and Recreation (INDER) vice presidency, emphasized that the gym features 18 pieces of equipment fabricated by the Italian company Technogym, a specialized enterprise endorsed by the International Olympic Committee.

Participating in the event were First Vice President Miguel Diaz-Canel; INDER President Antonio Becali, and government authorities in Havana, along with outstanding baseball players Pedro Medina and Luis Giraldo Casanova.
