The president of Japan’s Sports Agency, Daichi Suzuki, congratulated the Cuban sports movement for its efforts in this sector, at a press conference held in the Havana's Ciudad Deportiva, on June 1.
"In Cuba, the sports system serves multiple purposes, such as education for the little ones and recreation for the elderly. I visited a primary school and was impressed to see the children in Physical Education. I think it's a very interesting strategy, "Suzuki said.
The visitor referred to the strengthening of Cuba-Japan relations in sports and offered the example of baseball, in which the two nations share friendly ties. "We want to exchange knowledge in various disciplines, because our countries are strong in different sports, and this will help us better prepare for the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo," he said.
The Japanese representative commented on work being done to keep baseball in the Olympic program, and noted that his country sends trainers to regions of the world where the sport is not practiced.
During his stay in Cuba, Suzuki also visited the Holveín Quesada National School of Boxing, the Manuel Fajardo University of Physical Culture and Sport Sciences, the Giraldo Córdova Cardín High Performance Secondary School, and the Baraguá Swimming Pool Complex.
