The Baku Grand Prix, in Azerbaijan, concluded with an excellent performance by Cuban parajudoka Yordani Fernandez, who took the bronze medal in the +100 kilogram division, placing himself 13th in the ranking for the Tokyo-2020 Paralympic Games.

Fernandez lost the bout that would have given him a chance to compete for the title, losing to Uzbek Shirin Sharipov, ranked second worldwide, but won the bronze with an ippon victory over Britain’s Jack Hodgson, who had beaten him in 2019, reported Jit.

Fernandez has thus accumulated 180 points in his division’s ranking, with one more opportunity to fight for a better placement before the summer event: the Warwick/Birmingham Grand Prix in June.
