Pinar del Río athlete Yarisley Silva finished third in the pole vault at the Czech Indoor Gala international meet held in the Czech city of Ostrava, February 3.
The Cuban athlete soared over the 4.51-meter mark in the pole vault event, as part of the winter season of international athletics competition. According to the event's website, Silva, London-2012 Olympic silver medalist, vaulted for 4.31 meters in her second attempt, and then cleared the bar at 4.41 and 4.51 meters.
She was unable to make the 4.61 meters, which only Iryna Zhuk, from Belarus, and Slovenia's Tina Sutej, accomplished, thus finishing in first and second place respectively.
Zhuk cleared 4.71m and then missed the 4.78m, although she had already secured the top spot; while Sutej, European indoor silver medalist and defending champion of the event, vaulted for 4.61m.
