Although he was unable to reach the podium at the Oregon-2022 World Athletics Championships, long jumper Maykel Massó has been having an excellent year.
The bronze medalist in Tokyo-2020 has just won the international athletics meeting in Monaco, corresponding to the tenth stop of the Diamond League, with 8.35 meters, reason why the First Secretary of the Communist Party and President of the Republic, congratulated him on his Twitter account.
That record improves by 20 centimeters the highest mark he had achieved in the season (8.15), reached precisely in the final of the Diamond League, and also served him to beat the Olympic champion and world runner-up, Miltiadis Tentoglou, who reached 8.31, in an event in which the U.S. athlete Marquis Dendy finished third with the same result.
With that performance and the third place in the Silesia meeting last week, Massó accumulates 20 points in the circuit ranking, according to Jit sports newspapers.
Cuban Leyanis Pérez also took part in the Monegasque competition, in the triple jump, placing seventh with 14.37. The next stop of the Diamond League will be in Lausanne, Switzerland, on August 26.
