Santiago de Chile. – “We have been here since 11 pm, some arrived earlier. We came to welcome our brothers and sisters. We carry Cuba in our heart”.
Members of the coordinating groups of solidarity with Cuba cheered the first part of the Caribbean delegation that arrived in this city at 2 am on October 17 with 8 degrees of temperature, but so much warmth diminished the cold.
Athletes from judo, shooting, boxing, rowing, artistic gymnastic, diving, taekwondo, weightlifting, swimming and baseball received the embrace of those acclaiming them, expecting to have a picture with the young competitors.
Voices with Cuba, Cuba, Cuba, Chile salutes were the pinnacle of a long trip, which is just starting.
Later, the official welcome to the delegations was staged with the hoist of the flags of the 41 countries to be represented.
The Pan American Villa, located in the Cerrillos municipality, hosts around 3 000 people, among athletes, technical officials and heads of missions.
As it is expected in the opening ceremony, the act was an opportunity to exhibit the Chilean culture and identity through the presentation of Bafochi (Chile’s Folkloric Ballet), among others.
