Cuba will begin today its route in the 17th Paralympic Games, which were inaugurated yesterday in Paris and will be held until next September 8.
For our delegation, the first athlete to participate will be Lilisbet Rodríguez in parataekwondo, who entered the scene around half past five in the morning, Cuban time.
Lilisbet, an athlete in the K44 category, for people with disabilities in one of their arms, had scheduled her debut against Zakia Khudadadi, from the Refugee Olympic Team, in the K47 division.
Also today, Leydis Posada will compete in the women's recurve archery event. The young woman from Havana will be making Cuba's debut in this paralympic discipline.
Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Party and President of the Republic, wished success to the 21 Cubans participating in the Paris-2024 Paralympic Games.
"Today, in the name of 21 parathletes, the Cuban flag will fly over the Champs Élysées in the hands of two record-breaking stars: Omara Durand and Robiel Yankiel Sol," the President pointed out on the social network x, shortly before the opening ceremony.
Díaz-Canel affirmed that Cuba's history of 43 titles in the Paralympic Games will continue to grow "because we defend inclusion and sport for all".
