The five-time Olympic champion, Mijaín López, was awarded the prize for the Best Male Athlete of 2024, granted by the Federation of Sports Journalists of America (Fepeda).
"It is an honor for me, the result of many years of sacrifice and dedication, always committed to my country", said the Giant of Herradura, who also expressed his satisfaction for contributing to the prestige of the sport in the continent.
The award ceremony was held at the headquarters of the Union of Journalists of Cuba, and was in charge of the Colombian Carlos Julio Castellanos, president of Fepeda.
As reported by Jit, Castellanos emphasized that the Greco-Roman style wrestler "wrote one of the most glorious pages of the Olympic Games", and "he did it with style, elegance and superiority.
"This is an award that not only recognizes medals or statistics, but the symbol that Mijaín represents for Cuba, for America and for clean, honest and exemplary sport," he argued.
