
Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff, announced the third stage of the “My house, My life” housing plan, with the construction of three million homes set to begin in 2015. The third stage of the “My house, My life” housing plan, aims to build three million homes for low income citizens. The launch of this new phase of the plan, Brazil’s largest housing project, was announced during the presentation ceremony of 5,460 homes in 10 cities over seven states, and the Federal District of Brasilia. Our objective it to make it clear that it is possible to build three million homes, stated Rousseff, to ensure the continuation of the plan, initiated in 2009, which provides homes for low income citizens. The governmental subsidy will continue and we are urging the contracted companies to chose sites and talk with officials about continued construction beginning next year, she emphasized. Rousseff defended the use of National Treasury funds to help pay for the homes, commenting that it is the state’s duty to improve the lives of its citizens. She recalled that in the first stage of the program, one million homes were built, and in the second, currently underway, 350,000 are expected to be completed, on the way to reaching a total of 2,750,000 new homes. After emphasizing the importance of the project she stated that, in addition to resolving a housing problem, it is also generating employment for civil construction workers and the business sector. The plan is a dream come true for thousands of Brazilians, emphasized Rousseff, who participated in the presentation ceremony, handing over the keys to some 500 apartments in the Paranoa Parque residential zone, located 20 kilometers from the center of Brasilia. In addition to the capital, homes have been built in the cities of Belford Roxo and Duque de Caxias, in the state of Río de Janeiro; Betim and Governador Valadares, in Minas Gerais; Curitiba, in Paraná; Jequié, in Bahía; Joinville, in Santa Catarina; Juazeiro do Norte, in Caerá, Sao Vicente and Santo André, in Sao Paulo.
