OFFICIAL VOICE OF THE COMMUNIST PARTY OF CUBA CENTRAL COMMITTEE

The Union of Cuban Writers and Artists (Uneac) demanded today an end to extrajudicial executions the victims of which are repeatedly black people in the U.S.

Uneac’s Aponte Commission against Racism and Racial Discrimination denounced in a statement, the racially motivated assassinations committed with impunity by U.S. police

The text cites various racially motivated crimes perpetrated in important U.S. cites, a “harsh and persistent reality” which breaks the model of civilization espoused by the U.S.

According to the Commission, some of the most notorious cases represent just the tip of the iceberg of a very profound and complex problem which also affects other ethnic minorities, such as Latinos.

The document cites an investigation by ColorLine and The Chicago Reporter into shootings by police officers in 10 neighborhoods, where they discovered a disproportionate number of black victims.

In addition, the U.S. Justice Department ruled that the police officer from Ferguson, scene of one of the most recent cases, acted with racial bias.

“The logic goes, shoot first, ask questions later. White police officers are usually cleared of all charges when taken to court,” the statement notes.
