German Minister of Foreign Affairs, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, departs today for Cuba on his way to make an official visit to the country during which he will meet with various authorities of the island.

It will be the first official visit to Havana by a German Foreign Minister, during which he will hold meetings with his Cuban counterpart, Bruno Rodríguez; and Minister of Culture, Julián González Toledo, according to his schedule.

A German Foreign Ministry spokesperson described the visit as extraordinary, and one which aims to improve economic, political and cultural links between the two nations.
