
BUENOS AIRES.—An enthusiastic crowd filled the Casa de la Amistad Argentino-Cubana (Argentine – Cuban Friendship House) to celebrate July 26 while calling for an end to the blockade imposed by the United States on Cuba.
The celebrations for Cuba’s National DayofRebellion began with a march on the island, while the Argentines joyfully celebrated with typical empanadas and a Locro (traditional dish) also marking the 29th anniversary of this joint institution, founded July 26, 1986.
Meanwhile, in El Salvador, friends of Cuba held a march to commemorate the date, while in Paraguay the 16 Cuban collaborators of Operation Miracle signed the Code of Ethics in salute to the 62nd anniversary of the Moncada assault, and ratified their commitment to perform over three thousand surgeries by the end of 2015, the head of the group, Dr. Carlos Alberto Perea, informed Prensa Latina.
Maya Fernández, granddaughter of former Chilean president Salvador Allende and Socialist deputy, sent warm greetings to the Cuban people for the anniversary. In South Africa, members of the solidarity movement, political organizations of the Tripartite Alliance, Cuban diplomatic staff and collaborators, came together to celebrate this historic date.
They recalled that the assaults on the Moncada and Carlos Manuel de Céspedes barracks in Santiago de Cuba and Bayamo respectively, were the driving force for future actions that culminated with the triumph of the Revolution on January 1, 1959.
Cuba’s Consul in Pretoria, Ivan Ferrer, highlighted the new context in which the anniversary was being celebrated, after the victorious return of Gerardo Hernández, Ramon Labañino and Antonio Guerrero to the island.
Angola also celebrated this National DayofRebellion, with Cuban Vice Consul, Edel Matos, recalling that the date was a symbol of pride, “marked by a heroic deed in the course of the necessary war, devised by José Martí, understood by Fidel Castro, which later evolved into the revolutionary triumph of January 1, 1959.”
Cuban collaborators of Antex corporation in Angola ratified their commitment to fulfill their missions, strengthen cooperation and face new challenges with the same courage and determination as those who took part in the Moncada assault.
The Association of Cuban residents inChinacelebrated the 62nd anniversary of this historic feat at the Embassy ofthe island, where the head of theConsularOffice, Javier Jiménez Valdés,spoke of the current context in the country and the process being implemented by the Cubangovernment.
In this regard he stressed that despite facing many challenges, the country has managed to ensure political and social participation, universal education and health care, a social security system, significant progress towards equality of opportunity and in combating all forms of discrimination.
