
HANOI.-According to official sources, today September 8, representatives from Cuba and Vietnam discussed the development of bilateral relations, while officials from the Caribbean nation also thanked their counterparts for their ongoing collaboration in the agricultural sector.
The matter was addressed during conversations between Santiago Pérez, head of the Party Central Committee’s Food-Agriculture department and Tong Thi Pong, vice president of the National Assembly of Vietnam.
Pérez gave details on progress being made in the updating of the island’s economic model and congratulated Vietnam on its achievements stemming from the process of reforms launched in 1986.
He also conveyed greetings from the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution Fidel Castro and President Raúl Castro to Secretary General of the Communist Party of Vietnam (PCV), to Nguyen Phu Trong, and other leaders of this nation, which were reciprocated by the hosts.
Trong expressed his hope that the Cuban delegation’s visit would contribute to strengthening the ties of friendship and cooperation between the two parties and nations, and also gave details regarding preparations for the 12th PCV Congress.
Programs being undertaken in Cuba to increase food production and thus substitute imports are an important part of collaboration efforts.
Pérez’s visit coincided with the 8th Asia-Pacific Solidarity with Cuba Regional Encounter, another expression of the ties of friendship between the two nations which will celebrate 55 years on December 2.
