
Venezuelan and Colombian government authorities are meeting in Caracas today to discuss a binational plan to address the situation on their shared border, teleSUR reported.
The meeting was part of the seven-point accord signed between Presidents Nicolás Maduro and Juan Manuel Santos following a high-level meeting held on Monday in Quito, Ecuador.
According to a statement by Venezuelan Foreign Minister Delcy Rodríguez, the agenda includes discussion of various issues such as the attack on Venezuela’s currency, combating drug trafficking, and paramilitary groups operating on the border.
Maduro indicated that the possibility of creating a fair trade system to counter fuel smuggling to Colombia will also be discussed.
On Monday the two presidents authorized the immediate return of their respective ambassadors, an investigation into the situation on the border as part of strengthening dialogue bilateral, and the progressive normalization of the zone to ensure peaceful coexistence and socio-economic development.
