The Bolivarian Revolution initiated by Hugo Chávez and being continued by Nicolás Maduro received innumerable expressions of support following the December 6 legislative elections, in which the opposition gained a majority in the National Assembly.

President of Bolivia, Evo Morales reaffirmed, “As long as capitalism and imperialism exist, the struggle will continue because we are in the process of liberating our peoples,” while saluting the triumph of democracy in Venezuela. He also emphasized the importance of reflecting on the outcome and refining strategies to defend the democratic revolutions leading the liberation process across Latin America.

Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega called on the revolutionary forces to reflect and stand firm to face the new challenge and consolidate its victories.

A communiqué from the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Relations congratulated Venezuela for the “orderly and peaceful” elections and reiterated its support to continued dialogue, stability and development in the neighboring country.

During a press conference broadcast on teleSUR, Dilia Díaz from the Farabundo Martí National Liberation Front in El Salvador commented that the election outcome was largely the result of “the economic and media war which the Venezuelan right wing and imperialism have waged for years,” which has escalated recently, “bringing shortages and inflation in the economy and impacted the quality of life of Venezuelans.”
