
Moscow.— On Thursday, May 26, Russian Prime Minister, Dmitri Medvedev received Cuban First Vice President, Miguel Díaz-Canel at the State Duma, to review the development of bilateral ties with delegations from both countries.
The two officials discussed commercial and economic cooperation in the spheres of energy, pharmaceuticals, industry, education and tourism.
During the cordial visit, they reviewed the excellent state of bilateral relations between both countries and assessed the development of said ties following President Vladimir Putin’s visit to Cuba in 2014.
Medvedev was accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister, Dmitri Rogozin, Ministers of Energy, Alexander Novak, and Industry and Trade, Denis Manturov.
Also participating in the meeting were deputy ministers of Economy, Development, Finances and Foreign Affairs; Deputy Foreign Minister and head of Western Hemisphere Affairs, Serguei Ryabkov, as well as director for Latin America at the Russian Foreign Ministry, Alexander Schetinin.
Later in the day, Miguel Díaz-Canel met with Deputy Prime Minister, Dmitri Rogozin, also co-chair of the Intergovernmental Commission for Bilateral Cooperation. He also held a fraternal encounter with the Secretary General of the Russian Communist Party, Guennadi Ziugánov.
As part of his scheduled activities, Díaz-Canel also met with Valentina Matvienko, chairwoman of the Federation Council at the Federal Assembly, where the two officials reviewed the excellent state of bilateral relations and discussed the development of economic and commercial ties.
On the morning of May 26, the Cuban Vice President laid a floral wreath at the Eternal Flame Memorial Complex, just outside the Kremlin, Moscow, and paid tribute to soldiers who died during WWII, as a gesture of gratitude to the 27 million Soviets that lost their life fighting to free the world of fascism.
Participating in these encounters and other related activities were delegation members, Deputy Foreign Minister Rogelio Sierra and Cuban Ambassador to Russia, Emilio Lozada.
