The 58th anniversary of the Cuban Revolution, January 1, 2017, has not gone unnoticed by the international community, as the island continues to receive messages of congratulations from political figures, intellectuals and solidarity activists worldwide.
Russia’s Foreign Minister issued a statement regarding the message sent by President Vladimir Putin to his Cuban counterpart on the occasion of the important anniversary.
”The President once again conveyed his condolences following the death of Fidel Castro and expressed his certainty that his (Castro’s) life’s work, committed to creating a just society, will be continued by his followers for the good of the Cuban people,” reads the text.
Putin also highlighted “the progressive development of Russia-Cuba relations and their spirit of strategic association.”
Meanwhile, Secretary General of El Salvador’s Farabundo Martí Front for National Liberation (FMLN), Medardo González, sent a message of congratulations this January 2, to the Cuban people for their successful Revolution, reported PL.
In his radio program De Frente, broadcast on Radio Maya Visión, the political leader also extended greetings to Cuba’s Ambassador in El Salvador, Iliana Fonseca; the Communist Party of Cuba; associations of Cubans living in the country; and the people and government of the island.
The Sahara Press Service circulated Brahim Gali, President of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic’s message to Army General Raúl Castro on the anniversary of the Revolution, reiterating Western Sahara’s commitment to continue strengthening ties of friendship between the two countries.
Meanwhile, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) expressed its hope this year to see “the ties which have always existed between Cuba and UNESCO strengthened.”
The organization also recalled that 2017 will mark 70years since the establishment of relations between the UN body and Caribbean nation.
According to a statement from the Cuban delegation to UNESCO, based in Paris, a range of activities will be undertaken throughout the year in honor of this important milestone.
The events scheduled to take place will demonstrate Cuba’s various achievements in spheres linked to UNESCO, reported PL.
“The crucial role of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, in driving forward and achieving the goals accomplished in these spheres will, without a doubt, be present in every one of the activities undertaken, as a demonstration of the priority Cuba affords to these indispensable rights,” read the statement by the Cuban delegation.
