SOCHI, Russia.– Friendship abounds between the peoples of the world in Sochi, a city that has been overtaken by young people, in a fraternal encounter that has erased language barriers, as the universal language of affection and the struggle for peace prevails, in defense of the achievements of each.
Suselys Morfa González, first secretary of the Young Communist League (UJC), told the press that the Cuban delegation to the global event has experienced intense emotions and joy, and grown in maturity through its participation.
Yesterday saw panels on Che and solidarity with Africa – with the participation of Aleida Guevara March – and the fight against war and imperialism, as well as the beginning of the Anti-imperialist Tribunal, which today will present the case of Cuba, through the voice of Elián González Brotons.
Monday closed with a solidarity meeting between the delegations of Cuba and Vietnam, where the UJC first secretary said that both peoples have come together to reaffirm their revolutionary and socialist positions.
“Fidel expressed at a crucial moment for his country that for Vietnam, Cuba would be willing to shed her own blood. That same principle is endorsed by this new generation,” Morfa González stated during the encounter characterized by affection and deep respect.
Meanwhile, Le Quoc Phong, first secretary of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union’s Central Committee, stressed that the passion of Cuba has been felt at the Festival. “For us, Cuba has always carried a banner. We believe that there is no other person who has left such a mark on young people as Fidel Castro. We will continue to strengthen the bilateral ties that unite our peoples.”
Talks on illiteracy and the struggle for its eradication in the twentieth century, and the role of the student movement for public, free and quality education, are just some of the activities that will take place today as part of the 19th World Festival of Youth and Students.
