GENEVA.–Israel has a legal obligation to compensate Palestine for the economic damages caused by five decades of occupation, either by obstructing economic activity in the occupied territories or by impeding their progress and development, a UN report released on Wednesday noted.
The text adds that Tel Aviv must open an investigation into recent repression in the Gaza Strip, which killed at least 17 Palestinians and left thousands injured.
Meanwhile, Israel rejected the investigation requested by the UN and later by the European Union (EU).
“They did what they had to do. I think all our troops deserve recognition, and there will be no investigation,” stated Israeli Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman.
The cruel armed Israeli repression against peaceful Palestinian demonstrators sparked international condemnation of “the excessive use of force.”
Cuba strongly condemned the Israeli aggression against the Palestinian population, which represents a serious and flagrant violation of the UN Charter and International Humanitarian Law.
