The principal leaders of the Communist Parties, states, and governments of the People’s Republic of China and the Republic of Cuba exchanged messages of congratulations on the occasion of the anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two nations.

In a missive addressed to comrade Xi Jinping, secretary general of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, Army General Raúl Castro Ruz, first secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba Central Committee, stated that our country is honored to have been the first in Latin America and the Caribbean to establish diplomatic ties with the new China, while reaffirming that we are convinced that younger generations will give continuity to the legacy of the last six decades being commemorated. The First Secretary also expressed gratitude for the solidarity China has shown a small nation like Cuba, which has resisted imperialist hostility, never surrendering.

The President of the Republic of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, noted in his message to comrade Xi that the deep friendship uniting our countries has stood the test of time, and that we have assumed as our own the progress each nation has made in the construction of socialism. Díaz-Canel emphasized the understanding shared by Cuba and China on the need to save lives, apply science and promote international cooperation in the battle against COVID-19.

For his part, Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz reiterated to his counterpart Li Keqiang the will to continue strengthening economic ties, raising them to the level of the excellent political relations the two nations have developed.

General Secretary Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Li Keqiang emphasized in their notes the mutual political confidence uniting Cuba and China, the productive results of exchanges in a variety of areas, and reciprocal support in the international and regional arenas. They both noted that the two countries have struggled in a joint effort to fight COVID-19, writing a new chapter in the long history of friendship between our peoples.

Comrade Xi Jinping stressed that new promising opportunities for the friendship between Cuba and China are on the horizon as a new historic starting point emerges, reaffirming the will to work together to expand cooperation to generate greater benefits for both countries and peoples.

China and Cuba established diplomatic relations September 28, 1960, which have become a reference for cooperation on the basis of equality and mutual respect, between a large country and a small one, both socialist, and between a Latin American nation and the one and only, indivisible China.
