Whether by chance, a wise choice or a well-planned construction of the oligarchy and the U.S. special services, Jair Bolsonaro, the "Messiah" of the rich and powerful, former president of Brazil and unconditional servant of U.S. interests, could not be more similar to former U.S. president Donald Trump.
Many things unite them. Trump and Bolsonaro are advocates of torture, promote brutal practices and defend the indiscriminate sale of firearms.
Both are deeply xenophobic, misogynist, intolerant, homophobic, neither of them wants to hear about climate change, both are heavy users of social networks and builders of fake news, and have been protagonists of electoral campaigns with extremist speeches.
The list of Jair Bolsonaro's submissions to his putative father is long. In June 2019 he communicated, with great enthusiasm, that Brazil was accepted by the United States as an extra-NATO ally, a special status that enables the delivery of surplus defense articles and the organization of joint maneuvers.
The pinnacle of the South American giant's subordination to the United States was the signing of the Technology Safeguards Agreement, associated with US participation in space launches from the Alcantara base, guaranteeing the handling of "sensitive" US technology.
Washington had a real Trojan Horse in Brazil: the undeniable advances in many areas, especially in the economic and social fields, of the PT governments, were "exemplarily" dismantled by the South American imitator.
Being faithful to his Donald Trump pocket-sized career, he did nothing to protect his people from the COVID-19 pandemic, and went as far as to surpass his idol's fanatical stupidity, which cost the lives of hundreds of thousands of Brazilians.
To top off his performance, the dark and fanatical forces that follow him invaded the National Congress building, the Planalto Palace and the Federal Supreme Court. Of course, it is no coincidence that it was in the first days of January.
It is not by chance that Bolsonaro studies every act and every gesture of his mentor: the former president put sea and land in the middle, to save his skin and his prestige in case the coup failed.
The coup attempt is a premeditated act not exempt from a large dose of desperation on the part of the Brazilian and continental ultra-right, in view of the danger, for their interests, represented by the government of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. The plot that led to the vandalism and anti-democratic acts of January 8 began much earlier.
Let's recall the first steps, on Thursday, April 5, 2018. Judge Sergio Moro drafted the arrest warrant for then former president Lula da Silva.
Lula was convicted on the basis of hearsay, without evidence, after an anomalous judicial process, loaded with bias. The judicial pronouncement and the arrest warrant against Lula constituted a clear political proscription of a popular candidate.
As if that were not enough, the Army Chief threatened the judges of the Court with a classic coup d'état, should Lula be released.
Lula's imprisonment constituted the second step of the coup that began with the impeachment of former President Dilma Rousseff, in 2016.
The U.S. empire, its allies, accomplices and servants need to get rid of a leader like Lula at all costs, to distance Brazil from the Brics group, prevent Latin American integration, privatize banks and services, prevent the reapplication of public policies that benefited millions of Brazilians during the PT governments, and deepen the control of the country's immense wealth.
Actions such as those of last Sunday show how dangerous the panorama is in the region and the need for continental unity in the face of the giant of the seven leagues.
The truth is that the Latin American right wing has nothing new to offer. Its agenda is the same and simple, its policies are clear, its subordination to the empire is greater: it is more dependent than 40 or 50 years ago, but it is still as intolerant, criminal and abject.
