The Cuban vaccine Abdala against coronavirus is effective to prevent health worsening and death resulting from Omicron variant and sub-variants which have circulated since December 2021. The protection offered by this bio-product almost matches that it had against the original virus discovered in Wuhan, China, said undersecretary for health promotion and prevention Ruy López Ridaura.
As reported by La Jornada newspaper Ridaura stressed that most of the 23 million doses to be applied in the vaccination campaign will be of Abdala and four million of Russia’s sputnik.
About Abdala, he stressed that Health Authority specialists verified the high efficiency to prevent serious complications of the COVID-19 after the results of studies was presented to them by researchers.
He stated that the country has enough immunogens against coronavirus, therefore no more acquisitions will be needed, although Patria vaccine is likely to be launched in early 2024. Today the plant’s accreditation process is underway.
