"We have to take great care of ALBA-TCP and reactivate it," emphasized the executive secretary of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America-People's Trade Treaty, Jorge Arreaza, who was received yesterday by the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Party and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez.
The Head of State referred to the active role to be played by ALBA-TCP within other integrationist spaces in Latin America and the Caribbean, such as the largest of them, the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC).
He congratulated Arreaza on his appointment as head of ALBA, founded on December 14, 2004 by Commander Hugo Chávez Frías and Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz. He also assured him that he may "count on Cuba's full support".
He reminded that no integrationist block in the region had been able to obtain so many results in such a short period of time, such as the cooperation in health, Operation Miracle, Petrocaribe and other initiatives promoted by its leaders, which benefited millions of people in Latin America and the Caribbean.
AGAINST ATTEMPTS TO DESTABILIZE CUBA
Arreaza referred to the declaration of the alliance "to firmly reject the destabilization attempts against Cuba", he expressed to the press group of the Presidency.
"The ALBA-TCP countries have agreed to pronounce themselves; because, clearly, this is another of the destabilization intentions of the U.S. government, not only to besiege Cuba with the blockade, but also, once besieged, to try to destabilize, using toxic platforms, of social networks, to generate a social outburst in Cuba.
"We are of the opinion that the ALBA includes the spirit, not even integrationist, but unionist, of Simón Bolívar, of José Martí, of Hugo Chávez, of Fidel Castro".
He said that "we must move forward in some pending economic issues, such as an ALBA economic zone, reactivate Petrocaribe and, consequently, social issues, those policies in which Cuba, with so much effort, has played a leading role".
