
Mexico will go today before the International Court of Justice (ICJ) to denounce the violation to the national sovereignty perpetrated by the Government of Ecuador, after ordering the violent break-in to the Mexican Embassy in Quito, to kidnap the former Ecuadorian vice-president Jorge Glas, who had received political asylum.
This was announced at a press conference by Mexican Foreign Minister Alicia Bárcena, who said that the violent raid, ordered by President Daniel Noboa, is an unprecedented event, and must be condemned by the international community, reported Prensa Latina.
The Ecuadorian authorities "entered with violence and without authorization, physically attacking, and for this reason, and on the instructions of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, we decided to break off relations with the Government of Ecuador and we strongly condemn it", expressed Bárcenas.
She detailed that 18 Latin American countries, 20 European countries, including the European Union, through its High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, have condemned the violation of the Mexican Embassy in Quito.
It was also known that López Obrador thanked the leaders of these nations for the solidarity shown in the face of the flagrant violations of the American Convention on Asylum and the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.
On the social network X, the Cuban President, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, expressed his solidarity with Mexico, and warned that it is the duty of all to respect the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, as "an essential component of International Law".
According to El Confidencial newspaper, Cuba, Germany, Panama and Honduras were present with their representatives at the airport of the Ecuadorian capital to bid farewell to the Mexican diplomatic personnel.
It also transpired that Celac will hold emergency meetings today and tomorrow, according to the Honduran president pro tempore and head of state, Xiomara Castro de Zelaya, in relation to what happened.
