Independence Day in the United States is celebrated on July 4. The date was legalized on June 28, 1870, when Congress decreed that day as a federal holiday.
It is celebrated with ceremonies, speeches, parades and concerts. In addition, there are family reunions, get-togethers with friends and a large number of fireworks are set off.
What is known today as the United States was formed by 13 colonies belonging to Great Britain; however, on July 4, 1776, the representatives of those colonies signed the Declaration of Independence, a document that recognized it, according to Usa Gov.
On this occasion they will celebrate it, in the midst of a deep internal crisis, marked by a great division. In the dispute for the White House there are two traditional parties, with very similar objectives and goals, it seems formal, but nobody is unaware of the fracture that afflicts this society.
Two groups belonging to the real American power, however, are disputing hegemony on the road to the November elections this year. On the one hand, the almost absolute owners of real power, BlackRock and Vanguard, the two largest fund management companies in the world, and the old U.S. economic power, which is fighting to maintain its privileges.
In a country where extreme right-wing fundamentalist militias and supremacist groups abound, storm clouds are looming over its inhabitants, beyond the quarrel between Republicans and Democrats.
The United States is the world leader in serious and grave issues, including human trafficking and smuggling, and has the largest number of weapons available in the world, with 390 million firearms, more weapons than citizens.
Also, along with Canada and Albania, it tops the ranking of those who consume cocaine and other drugs, in addition to setting the standard among drinkers of alcohol and barbiturates.
One of the great contradictions of that nation is that, even though it is the most powerful and richest in the world, there is no universal public health coverage, so its inhabitants require medical insurance.
However, more than 41 million people do not have any type of insurance, since having one means paying a very high cost, if one is not part of the State programs.
In addition, a record number of people in the United States lack a permanent place to live. An estimated 653,104 people dwell on the streets, 20 out of every 10,000 people, according to the annual Point-in-Time Count survey.
Between the music, the display of colorful lights and the merriment of the holiday, many people in that country will have little or nothing to celebrate. In addition to the tribulations of poverty and homelessness, there will be insecurity on the one hand and the growing threat of a world war, in which everyone knows who will be the cannon fodder.
