The Secretary General of the Conference of Ministers of Justice of Ibero-American Countries (COMJIB), Enrique Gil Botero, described Cuba as an example within the community not only for its cooperation, but also for its leadership.
Proof of this -he told Granma- is the fact that it was the first nation to ratify the Treaty of Medellin, a tool to speed up the processing and referral of requests for legal cooperation between States.
In the framework of the Face-to-Face Meeting of the COMJIB Delegate Commission, which is meeting in Havana, Gil Botero praised the contribution to the construction of legislative conducts and the improvement of the country's laws, in accordance with the principles of the Conference.
On the other hand, Oscar Silvera Martínez, Minister of Justice of the Island, pointed out the importance of the topics to be discussed at the meeting for Cuba and the Ibero-American peoples by addressing justice with people as the fundamental addressee.
Another aspect is how Ibero-American countries are making better use of the information technology platforms that have revolutionized international legal cooperation and whose essential substantive element is the Treaty of Medellin itself.
Silvera Martínez stressed that Cuba continues to promote the conclusion of international agreements as part of the work on legal cooperation and reaffirmed the country's willingness to continue supporting the work of the COMJIB.
He urged to work to contribute to collective development, the promotion of international treaties, the creation of spaces for dialogue that promote respect for fundamental rights and freedoms, as well as the sovereignty of peoples and the promotion of issues of concern to the international community.
The meeting, which will be held for two days at the Hotel Nacional de Cuba, will be attended by four member countries and two nations as assistant secretaries.
