
HANOI, Vietnam.— The member of the Political Bureau and president of the National Assembly of People's Power, Esteban Lazo Hernández, arrived today in the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, to attend the state funeral of the general secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Nguyen Phu Trong, a close friend of Cuba.
The Cuban delegation is also composed of Jorge Luis Broche Lorenzo, member of the Secretariat of the Central Committee of the Party and head of its Economic-Productive Department; Juan Carlos Marsán Aguilera, deputy head of the Department of International Relations of the Central Committee; and Marta Hernández Romero, coordinator of the parliamentary commissions.
The funeral honors in tribute to Nguyen Phu Trong will be held on July 25 and 26, two days of national mourning in the sister Asian nation.
After learning of the unfortunate death of the Vietnamese leader; Army General Raúl Castro Ruz, leader of the Cuban Revolution; and the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Party and President of the Republic of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, sent a message of condolences to To Lam, member of the Political Bureau and President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam; in which they acknowledged that "the physical departure of comrade Nguyen Phu Trong is an irreparable loss for Cuba, which will always remember him as a great brother and a tireless promoter of the special friendly relations between our Parties, National Assemblies, Governments and peoples."
