CARACAS, Venezuela .— "I submit myself to justice," said yesterday the constitutional president, Nicolás Maduro, after requesting an appeal for protection before the Electoral Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice of this nation.
Appealing to the Constitution, "for the peace of Venezuela," he went to the highest court to summon the Electoral, Executive and Moral powers; the ten presidential candidates, and the 38 political parties, in order to settle the controversy and the attack against the electoral process, and to investigate the destabilizing actions during the July 28th.
In his declarations, he qualified the offensive of the opposition ultra-right wing and the empire as the most criminal that the country has ever experienced. At the same time, he assured that the evidence of this global plot has already appeared. "Let the laws work, let the State work. I will continue protecting the people of Venezuela so that they may resume all their activities and work in peace (...) I will never serve those who harm my country," he insisted.
In view of the constant siege of those who pretend to seize power alleging fraud in the recent elections, Maduro announced "that the Gran Polo Patriótico Simón Bolívar and the PSUV are ready to present 100% of the electoral records that are in our hands, and I hope that the Electoral Chamber does the same with each candidate and each party."
