Caracas, Venezuela.— The Venezuelan Public Prosecutor's Office informed the opening of a criminal investigation into the letter signed yesterday by Edmundo González Urrutia and María Corina Machado, in which they proclaim the former candidate as President-elect, in clear violation of the democratic stability of the country.
In the missive, disseminated through the social network X, both also urge the militia, the Police and the people to disregard the orders of the Bolivarian National Armed Forces and the constitutionally instituted Government.
Immediately, the Attorney General of the Republic, Tarek William Saab, announced that, in order to determine their responsibility for the alleged commission of multiple crimes against national peace, legal action would be taken.
La Machado and Gonzalez Urrutia were accused of allegedly committing the crimes of usurpation of functions; dissemination of false information to cause anxiety; instigation to disobey the laws, insurrection, association to commit crimes and conspiracy.
In view of this reedition of the coup attempt, using Guaidó's formula, in 2019, Vladimir Padrino, Minister of Defense, publicly reaffirmed "the most absolute loyalty and unconditional support to Nicolás Maduro, (...) who has been legitimately reelected by the popular power and proclaimed by the electoral power for the electoral period 2025-2031. In this country there will be peace," he assured.
