The President of the National Assembly of People's Power and the Council of State, Esteban Lazo Hernández, received the head of the House of Representatives of Trinidad and Tobago, Bridgid Annisette-George, at the National Capitol, seat of the Cuban Parliament.
The expressed will to strengthen bilateral ties was the central axis of the meeting, in which Lazo Hernández recalled that relations between both countries were cemented by visits of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz and Army General Raúl Castro Ruz, who defended a concept of integration based on parliamentary unity.
According to Prensa Latina (PL), the President of the National Assembly highlighted Cuba's total willingness to work on joint cooperation projects. He also stressed that there are great opportunities in sectors such as public health, education, sports, agriculture and construction.
Lazo Hernández highlighted the presence on Trinidad and Tobago soil of more than 80 collaborators who provide services to the population, in addition to a similar number of Cuban specialists graduated from Cuban universities. The exchange also addressed functional aspects of the Parliament's Standing Working Committees and the links they maintain with their counterparts in other countries, as well as the work of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with Trinidad and Tobago.
Bridgid Annisette-George explained the interest in forming a friendship group with Cuba in her nation, for which she presented a Letter of Intent to the Parliament of Trinidad and Tobago.
At the same time, she highlighted the achievements of the largest of the Antilles, among them, the production of vaccines, even in the midst of economic difficulties, reasons why, she said, her country will continue to support the end of the U.S. blockade against Cuba.
Diplomatic relations between Cuba and Trinidad and Tobago were formalized in December 1972, and have maintained, until today, principles of respect and collaboration.
