Wavel Ramkalawan, President of the Republic of Seychelles, arrived yesterday in Cuba for an official visit until September 20. Upon his arrival at Terminal 1 of the José Martí International Airport in this city, he was received by Anayansi Rodríguez Camejo, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs.
According to the Foreign Ministry's website, during his stay he will hold official talks with Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic; with Esteban Lazo Hernández, President of the National Assembly of People's Power, and with José Angel Portal Miranda, Minister of Public Health.
The President will also visit places of academic, historical and cultural interest, as well as Public Health institutions. In addition, agreements are expected to be signed to strengthen political and diplomatic ties and cooperation between the two countries. On October 26, 2020, Wavel Ramkalawan was sworn in as President of the Republic of Seychelles.
Cuba and the Republic of Seychelles have long-standing diplomatic relations, established on April 12, 1978, which have been based on friendship, solidarity and cooperation.
Both nations have maintained a long-standing relationship in areas such as education and health, in the latter several hundreds of Cuban doctors have collaborated over the years. The nation supports the Caribbean island in the United Nations resolutions to put an end to the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the U.S. government.
