This will be an appointment of definitions to pave the way, and also to face the challenges of a mechanism with an important weight at a global level. It is a group of nations that comprises practically half of the world's population, 40% of oil production, around 25% of goods exports, and 36.8% of the global GDP by purchasing power parity, surpassing the G7, which stands at 29%, according to the World Bank.
According to Yuri Ushakov, Russian presidential advisor, quoted by Telesur, "there will be a process of preparation of the new members for their future participation in the Brics," he affirmed.
When Russia assumed the Brics presidency in 2024, it began with the admission of new members: Saudi Arabia, Egypt, United Arab Emirates, Ethiopia and Iran, in addition to Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, which initially integrated it.
The group, seen as an opportunity for the emergence of a new, fairer and more democratic international order, faces challenges such as the consolidation of an organizational framework, rules of procedure, a founding charter or a defined operational structure, which are even more important with the incorporation of new members.
Cuba was invited to attend the Summit with a delegation headed by Political Bureau member and Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, who explained in X that current circumstances prevent the attendance of Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, who is personally leading the efforts to reestablish the National Electric System and face the damages caused by hurricane Oscar.
Telesur also reported on the arrival in Kazan of the President of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, who said: "We come with our dreams and hopes for a world without colonialism and imperialism."
