The First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, received this Saturday morning Monica Valente, executive secretary of the Sao Paulo Forum, with whom he discussed the need to regroup the leftist forces in the region, which is currently going through a very complex moment.
The President spoke of fissures in the Latin American left, while the right wing is acting as an overwhelming block. We have to join forces from the Sao Paulo Forum, and count on us for any event, for any debate, but we have to join forces, he reiterated.
The president had received with a handshake and the adjective of friend the person who since 2014 has been in charge of the executive secretariat of this important movement, which brings together parties and political groups of the left, founded by the initiative of Latin American leaders Fidel and Lula, in 1990.
During the meeting -which took place at the Palace of the Revolution after the Head of State toured Havana, immersed in a recovery process after Hurricane Rafael- Díaz-Canel discussed the need for multilateralism and integration in a world marked by inequality, violence and arrogance.
Mónica Valente, who is on a working visit to the island, thanked the permanent support to the Sao Paulo Forum, "we have always counted on the unequivocal support of the Communist Party."ñ
She highlighted the fact that Cuba has always helped in the construction of unity in diversity, "you are masters in this," she considered. This is a time, as you mentioned, in which we must work more for unity, agreed Monica Valente.
The Sao Paulo Forum is made up of more than 120 political forces from around thirty Latin American and Caribbean nations. One of its priorities is to promote the unity and integration of the left political forces of the continent in the struggle against imperialism.
