Atacms long-range missiles were used early Tuesday by the Ukrainian Armed Forces against a facility in Russia's Bryansk province, the Russian Defense Ministry reported.
The action was carried out after U.S. President Joe Biden made the decision to allow Ukraine to use these U.S.-made projectiles against Russian territory.
According to Russia Today, in view of this attack - which represents a new escalation of tension and further US involvement in the Russian-Ukrainian conflict - the Kremlin decided to change its expression regarding the nuclear doctrine of the Eurasian state.
"Nuclear deterrence is aimed at ensuring that potential adversaries understand the inevitability of retaliation in case of aggression against the Russian Federation and/or its allies," the doctrine reads.
On the subject, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov recalled that "Russia has always considered nuclear weapons as a means of deterrence, the use of which is an extreme and necessary measure," and stressed that his country "has always taken a responsible position and made the necessary efforts to reduce the nuclear threat."
He clarified that "aggression against Russia by any non-nuclear state with the participation or support of a nuclear state will be considered a joint attack."
This situation, triggered by the U.S. government's decision, comes as the majority of Ukrainians are speaking out for a negotiated end to the conflict with Russia, as quickly as possible, according to the Gallup pollster.
"Across Ukraine, people are increasingly tired of war and are looking for a quick peace deal," the research notes.
